China, the European Union, Canada, Mexico and Turkey are among five countries and regions that have filed trade disputes with the WTO. The United States says the five countries and regions have imposed "countervailing duties" on U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs. The countervailing duties involve us imports worth $28.5bn. The us trade representative said the tariffs were in retaliation for a 25 per cent and 10 per cent us tariff on steel and aluminium imports imposed in March, saying the retaliatory tariffs were in violation of WTO rules.
